You must be at least 18 years of age in order to apply for a Pennsylvania marriage license. This rule applies whether you are male or female. If you are 16-18 years of age, you must be accompanied by the custodial parent or guardian to provide written consent. If you are under 16 years of age, you must have BOTH the written consent of the custodial parent or guardian and the written approval of a judge of the Orphans' Court Division of the Court of Common Pleas.
If you have been previously married and divorced, you must furnish a certified copy of the Divorce Decree dissolving the marriage. Certified copies of divorce decrees may be obtained by contacting the Family Division of the Court in which the decree was granted. A widow or widower must provide the date of death of their former spouse. Civil annulment requires the same documentation as divorces.
You are not required to be a resident of Pennsylvania to get married in the state.
Please call the appropriate office prior to your visit to verify office hours and fees. Obtaining your Pennsylvania marriage license is the one of the last steps in your Pittsburgh wedding planning process. From here, all the fun is to come!
