When looking for a Triad wedding photographer, it is important to choose the best one for you.  Your wedding photographs will be one of the only tangible memories of your day, so it is worth your time to find a photographer who is well-qualified.  Here are some things to look for, and questions to ask, when choosing a professional Triad wedding photographer:
  • How long has the photographer been in business?   Just because a photographer has been in business for 30 years doesn’t mean he/she is out-of-style! Those years of experience can mean their quality is good and that he/she can handle unique situations that may occur at YOUR wedding!  It may not be a good idea to have an inexperienced photographer doing on-the-job training at your wedding!

  • Does the photographer “archive” your wedding images (saving the film properly or storing the digital files properly)?  It is comforting to know that all of your wedding can be replaced if a disaster strikes!

  • Will you get a finished album with your favorite photographs?  Professional photographers offer albums that are archival in quality --  this means your images can be shared safely without fear of damage.

  • Do you only get a DVD with images that you must print yourself?  That might sound like a good idea at first, BUT the reality is that you will very likely wind up either losing the DVD or looking at the images for a while and never getting around to printing the images or creating an album! Also, remember that DVD’s are NOT archival – and even if they do last 75 years, will there be any computers that can read a DVD or CD then?

  • Is the photographer a member of professional associations, such as the Professional Photographers of America, the Professional Photographers of North Carolina, or the Southeastern Professional Photographers Association?  Membership does not guarantee quality, but it indicates that the photographer is serious about his/her image and subscribes to a “code of ethics” required for membership in the association.

  • Visit several Triad wedding photographers - look at samples of complete weddings that the photographer has done – are the images clear and well-exposed, or are they “washed-out” and sort-of-focused?  Does the photographer combine classic images with the more contemporary images (the classic images will be the ones you treasure in years to come!)

  • Ask about back-up equipment and back-up staff – what happens if the camera fails during the wedding? What happens if the photographer gets sick the day of your wedding?  Will you still get everything you paid for?

  • Get a contract in writing!  This protects you and the photographer in case there is a miscommunication.  Remember that a verbal contract is not worth the paper it’s written on!

  • Choose your Triad wedding photographer based on quality of the images and albums – yes, price is a consideration, but your photographs will be the only lasting memories of your wedding day! If you feel the need to cut costs, consider other areas to cut before you reduce your standards for the photography!
As you narrow down your search for a Triad wedding photographer, you may come across more questions to ask.  This list will get you started on finding the best professional wedding photographer for you in Greensboro or Winston-Salem.
