Keeping a Sense of Humor on the Wedding Day
I just came off another big wedding weekend. I was fortunate to find myself at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes again. The weather proved to be a challenge again as well. It always amazes me that, mid-week, the weather is beautiful, and then on the weekends we get rain and wind. This past weekend, we got both!
It rained very hard on Friday night, so by Saturday everything was quite soggy. Fortunately, the ceremony was in a church, so that was not a problem. However, we had a beautiful cocktail hour arranged outside at the hotel. We decided to move it to the Porte Cacher at the hotel, which was under cover, so we were protected from the rain, but Mother Nature had other ideas.
The sky was beautiful by the afternoon with beautiful white puffy clouds — and wind, lots and lots of wind. I have never seen a cocktail table blow over, I did this past weekend. We wound up moving the cocktail hour inside, but we were able to keep our plans of the bride and groom making a grand entrance via horse and carriage outside. It was a beautiful arrival and all went smoothly.
The biggest lesson I took away from the event was that it is so important to keep a sense of humor on your wedding day. Take a proper prospective on changing plans. Naturally, the bride and groom and their families had a different picture of what the wedding day would look like. Of course, we can’t control the weather. Realizing that, rather than letting the change in venue ruin their mood, the couple and their families just shrugged it off and enjoyed the day. It was a beautiful wedding! Everyone had a wonderful time.
As soon as the photos come in, I will post some for you to view.
