Honeymoon Mondays: Greece

One of my clients recently told me that she is planning a honeymoon to Greece. I immediately decided to make this the next destination featured in my wedding blog, as Greece is such a beautiful and romantic country.

From ancient ruins to stunning Mediterranean beaches to simply amazing cuisine, Greece is truly an ideal honeymoon destination. And with many companies offering significant discounts on travel and accommodations right now, a honeymoon in Greece is even more achievable than you might think!

Things to Do:

1. Immerse yourself in history. Site-seeing doesn’t mean you have to bypass the romance…you can watch a breathtaking sunset at the ruined Temple of Poseidon, for example. And you simply can’t go to Greece without touring such remarkable architectural achievements as the Parthenon and the Acropolis. Such sites are what most people think of when envisioning Greece.

2. Set sail. Situated on the gorgeous Mediterranean Sea, Grecian tours are often conducted on the water. Consider spending at least part of your honeymoon on a three-or-more day cruise of Greece and Turkey.

3. Buy those gifts and souvenirs. Athens, Greece is home to the Plaka district, a shopper’s paradise surrounding the Acropolis. This collection of shops is nestled in an area filled with both beautiful, illuminated monuments and bargains on everything from handmade postcards and colorful jewelry to incredible antiques.

4. Visit the home of ancient mythological gods. For honeymooners who aren’t afraid of a challenge, you might plan to climb Mount Olympus. Believed by ancient Greeks to be the home of Zeus, Mount Olympus reaches an impressive 9,577 feet, with hiking and climbing tours offered daily.

5. Relax and luxuriate. Not only are there many stunning beaches in Greece, but this country is also home to numerous springs with waters bearing therapeutic properties. Visit one of the many spas or hydrotherapy centers developed around these incredible natural springs for a very unique and romantic honeymoon experience.
