Real Wedding Wednesdays: Megan and Christopher at Honeymoon Beach, Water Island, USVI

I’ve mentioned before that I am particularly fond of Wednesdays, as writing a wedding blog about a couple’s most special day really serves as a highlight and a reminder of why I entered into this profession. Today’s real wedding story comes to us from a couple who live in Kansas City, but opted for a destination wedding in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Married this past summer, Christopher and Megan had their wedding on a small island just off St. Thomas. Their guests traveled down from the U.S. as well as across the Caribbean to join them on their special day. Thank you so much to Eric Johnson of Paradise Pictures (http://www.paradisepictures.vi/) for these gorgeous images!

Here is Megan and Christopher’s story, as told by the groom: “Megan’s family has property on Water Island, and she has been going there every year since she was a child. It is a unique location, unlike anywhere else in the world. In fact, Paramount Pictures used the beach where we got married for several of the scenes from the movie ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’.

The best part for me was seeing so many people we care about take a few days out of their busy lives to celebrate our life-long love and commitment. I truly adored the ‘escape’ aspect of our wedding…everyone got to unplug and enjoy the refreshing island life with great friends and family.

We went from a fabulous pirate party to movie night at the beach (a sheet hung between the palm trees was our movie screen), to a Mexican fiesta and dance party. All of the days leading up to the wedding were different.

The rain stayed away on the wedding day until after everyone sat down for dinner…but when it rained, it poured. The tent over our steel-pan musician started gathering huge amounts of water until finally the roof caved and a loud spark was heard as his equipment blew up! But shortly thereafter, the rain let up, and our friends pitched in and helped out and Megan and I danced to our special song (‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole). Nothing could sour this magical night!

When I saw Megan walk down the aisle in her gorgeous wedding dress along the same beach that she had dreamed about getting married at since she was a kid, I was awestruck and knew that God was bringing together two people in a marriage that will last forever.

I can’t wait to go back on our 5th anniversary and see the Golden Tree that only blooms once every five years and just happened to be in bloom for our wedding week. The residents of Water Island were all given a piece of this wonderful flower/tree to plant in honor of our wedding, and simply put, the people down there are amazing.

I hope that others can share in this wonderful piece of paradise just like my soul mate and best friend, Megan, and I were able to!”
