Hey Susan, My Ideal Wedding Venue Isn’t Available On My Date…Now What?

A bride I know recently toured a local wedding venue and ultimately fell in love with the place. Walking around the venue with her mother, she considered all of the options she had to add personal touches and beautiful décor. Her mother said the bride positively beamed as she envisioned herself walking down the aisle with her family and friends in attendance.

The following day, the bride approached the venue about contracting the space. It had booked for another wedding on her preferred wedding date within hours of her phone call. The bride was understandably devastated.

For today’s wedding blog post I thought I’d discuss some ways to find a solution if in event this happens in the course of your wedding plans:

1. Check for other available times on your date. Many venues have more than one time slot available for booking events. You may have had your heart set on an evening wedding followed by a dinner reception and dancing, but what about a brunch wedding instead?

2. Consider comparable venue alternatives. With the wedding industry growing every year, there are likely many potential venues in your area interested in your business. What did you most like about the first venue? Did you love the grand staircase? Was the quaint garden gazebo the exact look you were seeking? Identify those points that most matter to you and then seek alternative venues that match or exceed your expectations.

3. Be flexible in your date. Many brides select a date first in the course of their wedding planning. This can really work against you as you begin looking for a venue and your primary wedding vendors. Before deciding on the date, check availability. The more flexible you are in your date, the more likely you will be to book your preferred venue and hire your ideal vendors…and the more likely you will be thrilled with the results on your wedding day!

Real Wedding Wednesdays: Pamela and Benjamin at the Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club

Today’s real wedding blog post spotlights Cape Cod, MA. Pamela and Benjamin’s intimate wedding took place this past August at a stunning site called the Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club. The reception was held in a beautiful mansion built in the 1890′s.

I would love to extend a big thank you to Alicia Williams of Cordele Photography (www.cordelephotography.com) for these gorgeous images. Here is what the bride had to say about her special day:

Susan: How did you and Benjamin meet?
Pamela: We worked together for over two years at a music company in Boston, MA before we started dating.

Susan: How did he propose?
Pamela: He surprised me in the car! We were driving past a jewelry store, and I made a comment about it, and he pulled out the ring right then and there and asked me to marry him.

Susan: What was most memorable for you both on your wedding day?
Pamela: The beautiful sunshine and the rainbow in the sky as we said our vows. It had been raining every weekend leading up to our wedding, and we were so fortunate to have such a lovely day.

Susan: Was there anything that you considered particularly unique and/or personal to you for your wedding?
Pamela: We had only 25 guests at our wedding. We originally wanted to elope, but felt that there were some people we really wanted to share the event with. We had our parents, grandparents, siblings and a few of our closest friends as our guests.

It was such a special day because it was so unique to us. We are both musicians, and my good friend (Sarah Wilfong, of the country band Mustang Sally) composed us our own original piece of music to use for the ceremony, which she recorded for us in Nashville.

Ben and I are in a band together, and the singer in our band, Francesca Reggio, sang our first dance song, which was Stevie Wonder’s “You Are the Sunshine Of My Life.” The whole event was exactly as we wanted!

Wedding invitation interior detail… I love the fold-out concept! It’s so nice having all of the inserts organized in one place.
