The past two days were filled with amazing activities and interactions at the Weekend Wedding Retreat, and I can’t wait to write a wedding blog about our incredible experience! Today, though, is my Monday blog featuring a new possible honeymoon destination. I asked for input from some of the attendees at the Retreat, and together we decided on Majorca (or Mallorca), Spain.
This beautiful island is one of a grouping known as the Balearic Islands off the western coast of Spain. With an appealing climate, welcoming and hospitable culture, gorgeous scenery, and plenty of fun activities, Majorca makes a wonderful honeymoon location!
Things To Do:
1. Capture some inspiring images. Honeymooners will find no end of jaw-dropping vistas to capture in photos on this picturesque island, but they should also be sure to take in some of the impressive man-made scenery. With hundreds of years of history behind it, Majorca is home to some majestic architecture. Honeymooners should consider touring the famous Palma Cathedral, the Monestary of Lluc, the Palau de l’ Almudaina and the Iglesia de Santa Cruz during their stay on the island.
2. Play in the water (away from the beach). Although Majorca features a magnificent coastline with pristine beaches, honeymooners can also find plenty of entertaining aquatic activities away from the ocean sand. Check out the Palma Aquarium, Marineland, and the Aqualand Water Park, as a few examples.
3. Shop, shop, shop! I always love finding areas in other countries where honeymooners can engage with locals as well as fit in some sightseeing and shopping for those much-craved souvenirs. In Majorca, that place is the Market of Sineu. Started in 1306 by King Jaume II, the Sineu Market is celebrated every Wednesday in the town’s main square. Honeymooners can shop for handmade pottery, clothes, leather goods, and other impressive artisan crafts.
4. Sample some local cuisine. After a day of shopping, couples can venture to the Cellers (Majorcan restaurants) in the village for lunch. Honeymooners seeking to taste cuisine considered truly Majorcan should sample sobrassada, arros brut (saffron rice cooked with chicken, pork and vegetables), and the sweet pastry ensaïmada.
Do you have other ideas of things to do in Majorca that I didn’t include in this wedding blog? What about another honeymoon destination that you would recommend sharing? I would love to hear from you with input on your preferred destination, and photos are definitely encouraged!
