Honeymoon Mondays: Paris, France

This morning I thought to myself, what better honeymoon destination to feature in today’s wedding blog post than the City of Love? Cloaked in elegance and romance, Paris is perhaps the ultimate location for happy couples to celebrate a new marriage.

There is little arguing that every trip to Paris should include a visit to the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Louvre, but what are some of the not-quite-so-well-known experiences awaiting honeymooners at this popular destination? Read on to find out!

Things To Do:

1. Join the locals for breakfast. An inherent part of the Parisian culture is indulging in strong black coffee and flaky croissants at a favorite local cafe. With smoking having been banned inside Parisian restaurants, many cafes have now expanded onto terraces and surrounding pavement, truly bringing the outside in. Check out Cafe de Flore, Au Petit Fer a Cheval, or Le Sancerre, among many others.

2. Embark on a literary adventure. Paris has long been known as the point of inspiration for many famous poets and writers. Honeymooners seeking to follow in the footsteps of those who shaped our literary history should visit the Cimetière du Montparnasse. Here, couples can take an atmospheric walk among the headstones of famous writers such as the philosophers Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir as well as Baudelaire, Beckett and Guy de Maupassant.

3. Versailles. Simply put, there isn’t any need to embellish the significance of the historic Palace of Versailles. What was initially a château was expanded into one of the largest palaces in the world over the span of several decades in the late 1600′s. Honeymooners should definitely plan a full day to tour this dazzling and remarkable site.

4. Immerse yourself in the world of cutting-edge fashion. Although the grooms out there might shake their heads at the thought of shopping for designer labels, honeymooners simply can’t deny the place Paris holds in the fashion world. Le Bon Marché is the oldest department store in Paris, housing seven luxury boutiques such as Dior and Chanel as well as the Balthazar men’s section on the fashion floor. Other incredible shopping options include Printemps, Galeries Lafayette, boutiques in the Marais.

I really get the most out of people watching. Nobody is as good at it as the French are but I like to give them a run for their money. Sitting in a cafe's patio and watching people go about their business is my favorite way to unwind in Paris.
