Honeymoon Mondays: San Francisco, CA

We have previously visited California’s breathtaking wine country here on the wedding blog. It’s time once again to spotlight the California coast with a look at San Francisco as this week’s dream honeymoon locale! Chances are, you’re at least somewhat familiar with almost every landmark in this famous city, as they have been featured in countless movies and television shows worldwide.

Perhaps at the top of the list of internationally recognized icons of American engineering and pop culture is the Golden Gate Bridge (pictured above). You’re also sure to recognize the eerie, craggy silhouette of a certain famous penitentiary known as “The Rock” or Alcatraz Island. A ferry ride from Pier 33 will transport you to the island in San Francisco Bay where guided tours are given today.

You wouldn’t want to miss seeing the “Painted Ladies” in the residential neighborhood of Alamo Square. Besides recognizing them from a typical San Francisco postcard, they were also famously featured in the opening credits of the hit TV show Full House.

When headed to a new city, I always recommend starting out your stay with a guided tour; that way you can learn the lay of the land and hit the high points on the first day. Then you can set aside time to revisit Chinatown, for example, or head back to the Palace of Fine Arts (pictured below) at just the perfect time for a twilight ‘photo op’. If you’re worried that San Fran has too much to see, you can always maximize your efficiency with a Segway tour!

I know you’re ready to catch a cable car right now, so visit http://www.onlyinsanfrancisco.com for more information on this incredible city. Do you have other ideas of things to do in San Francisco that I didn’t include in this wedding blog? What about another honeymoon destination that you would recommend sharing? I would love to hear from you with input on your preferred destination, and photos are definitely encouraged!
