For those of you on a tight wedding-planning budget who have always envisioned your honeymoon as a luxurious, posh island getaway filled with great food and service, fruity cocktails and fun in the sun with your honey…you may be a little disappointed to learn about how much this all will actually cost.

I was in this position when looking at our honeymoon options. After lots of research and discussion, we settled on a cruise. I just got back a few days ago from what turned out to be an amazing honeymoon adventure, and I’m here to share 3 reasons why a cruise should be highly considered as a honeymoon option for a couple on a budget.

1.Getting to cruise ports is Easy and Inexpensive: With the exception of the Midwest region of the country, there are plenty of ports that are either within driving distance or just a low-fare flight away. While many people on our cruise, drove to Tampa, FL, we flew in from Atlanta for less than $300 for both of us.

2. Cruises are Mostly All-Inclusive: With a cruise, you pay one rate that includes transportation to all the destinations on your cruise, a clean and comfy stateroom (which we sprung for one with a balcony for a couple hundred dollars more, totally worth it), 7-star hospitality, 8-star non-stop cuisine and lots of on-board activities. This made for easy budgeting because the remaining costs were all for ‘fun,’ which is better suited for scaling up or down than anything else.

3. Cruises offer Flexible Payment Plans: When booking your cruise, they give payment plan options which are always helpful when you need more time to come up with the moola.

A cruise can be one of the most affordable ways to travel if you are looking for a luxurious experience, new destinations and the kind of hospitality you’d find in a five-star property. Have a look at online travel sites (think Travelocity) to compare your options, or go directly to the source with a cruise line. Also, CruiseWorldTraveler.com talks more about why cruising makes a great honeymoon in their article “Romantic Haven for Newlyweds”. PerfectWeddingGuide.com also has a number of travel agency vendors, so hop on to find an agent in your area.
