Honeymoon Mondays: Mombasa, Kenya

By Perfect Wedding Guide ‘National Wedding Expert’, Susan Southerland

For my wedding blog readers who crave something besides the ‘typical’ tropical paradise for your honeymoon, but still have a taste for white-sand beaches, I think this week’s Honeymoon Monday destination will give you some food for thought. Beyond the beach, you’ll find a little something special for everyone in culturally diverse Mombasa, Kenya. This Indian Ocean-front melting pot is packed with opportunities for African adventure!

Things to do in and around Mombasa:

  • Take in the rich biodiversity of African wildlife in an open vehicle tour or walking safari within the borders of nearby Tsavo East National Park (pictured above).

  • Visit the historical sites, such as: the artifact museum at Fort Jesus (a 16th century Portuguese fort, pictured above), the local Hindu temples, or the Gedi Ruins (a preserved Swahili town constructed entirely of stones).

Wedding Inspiration Boards: Fourth of July

By Wedding Blog Contributor, Samantha Crotty

With the Fourth of July right around the corner, there are sure to be many weddings that will have red, white and blue as their color scheme.

This got me thinking about color schemes in general, and how most of us only see the black and white scale of color. We forget that every color has a darker and lighter shade of it’s original color. Red has a family that consists of pinks, burgundy, etc. Blue has a family that includes colors like turquoise, baby blue, royal blue, etc. Then there is white. It’s not as generic as we think, there is beige, cream, nude, opal, vanilla, the list just goes on and on.

So what kind of “outside the box” color schemes did I have in mind? Check out this not so typical red, white and blue wedding inspiration board we’ve put together for you here at the wedding blog.

Celebrity Weddings: Katy Perry + Russell Brand, An Inspiration Board

By Wedding Blog Contributor, Samantha Crotty

Thanks to the information found on Celebrity Bride Guide, we have learned about several newly engaged celebrities that the public knows and loves. One couple that caught our attention was that of Katy Perry and Russell Brand. This past December while on holiday in India, Brand, proposed to Perry, and set the evening by purchasing the lovely songstress a beautiful Indian-inspired dress, and requesting a romantic dinner with candles outside of the luxurious Taj Rambagh Palace Hotel on New Year’s Eve.

With no date set, or any details planned, we here at the wedding blog have decided to plan this celebrity wedding the way we envision it will be, through an inspiration board.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand Cotton Candy Wedding

The personalities of these two stars are almost identical: goofy, colorful, and unique in their own ways. Which can only mean one thing — their wedding is going to fit that mold exactly. This wedding will have a hint of vintage glam with an explosion of color. I can see the couple going against everything traditional with the wedding planning — the ceremony, the reception, the color scheme, the food . . . everything!

Perry, a Santa Barbara, California native has said she does not want to host the ceremony in her hometown. So I’m thinking a destination wedding it will be! However, it would have to be a location that is full of energy, exotic, and fun… perhaps Mexico? Since the ceremony will only consist of close friends and family, the trip will be easily made for all of them.

The reception on the other hand should remain state-side. Let’s take the couple back to California and let the party begin. Since the duo is unique in every way, I can see the reception being full of color, similar to a rainbow. Hot Pinks, Bright Blues, Yellows, Greens and Purples:
