You don’t have to be an antique collector or spend a lot of money to add a vintage touch to your wedding reception decor. One versatile type of collectible glassware that comes in many shapes and sizes is called milk glass. Because it has been produced in relatively large quantities for many years, it’s readily available at thrift stores and yard sales these days at reasonable prices. Its milky white translucent coloring and clean lines make it a great option for both modern and traditional wedding decor schemes!
Milk glass pieces come in many forms, such as: vases, urns, bowls, candy dishes, and pitchers. For the purpose of wedding reception decor centerpieces or bridal shower decor, try to look for pieces that are either large enough to make a statement on their own, or smaller pieces that can be clustered together into a larger centerpiece arrangement. Depending on the vessel, you can add flowers, sea shells, fruit, or candy for a colorful punch!
You’re not going to find 10, 20, or 30 of the same thing, so don’t worry if every single centerpiece isn’t exactly the same. Part of the charm of vintage wedding reception decor is that things look ‘collected’ rather than cookie-cutter. Also, be sure to check with your florist to make sure they will allow you to provide your own containers.
Milk glass candy dishes (or wedding bowls, as they’re often called) also make great keepsake wedding or shower gifts. Smaller ones are perfect for a bride to place on her dresser or night stand as a place to store her wedding rings when she’s not wearing them!
I hope you’re inspired to shop for some vintage wedding decor of your own!
