Most of the time, when brides and grooms approach me about wedding fashion, they want advice about the wedding gown. Well, fashion for your wedding includes so much more. Today’s question is about shoes for the groom.

My fiancé wants his groomsmen to wear sneakers with their suits, but I think that’s totally tacky. How do we compromise? Angela, 33, New York City
Well Angela, non-traditional shoes (sneakers) have become a big fashion statement for grooms all over the country. In fact, the photo below shows groomsmen with sneakers that they were able to customize with colors and wording of their choice.

With that said, the look isn’t for everyone. If you really don’t want your groom and his wedding party to wear sneakers, perhaps you can let him get some funky socks.

When it comes to wedding planning, you have to decide which items are absolutely not negotiable. I assure you that sneakers aren’t tacky. If it is really important to your groom, you may want to let him go ahead with them. There are probably bigger issues on which you like to stand your ground.
Wedding blog readers, what do you think? Are sneakers tacky footwear for your groom and his groomsmen, or are they a great way for him to express his personality?
