Unique Wedding Dessert Ideas

Unique and personalized desserts can add a memorable touch to your wedding planning! Consider our wedding dessert ideas below instead of a traditional groom’s cake, used as a welcome gift for out of town guests, or even as a wedding favor. The creative possibilities are endless; from choosing different flavors to adding whimsical decoration and creating dramatic displays, fun sweets can add an unexpected touch that will wow your guests.

Cupcakes: most popular option right now, both the cake and frosting come in a variety of gourmet flavors, you can order them in a mix of your favorite cake and frosting flavors, cupcakes are also more versatile to display than traditional cake, as they can be stacked in many different shapes

Chocolate Covered Strawberries: most romantic sweets, can be made in a bride and groom themed (as pictured), they make great favors if they’re boxed up at each place setting, or displayed in-room as part of your honeymoon package at your hotel (ask if they provide this service)

Cake Pops: most trendy and fun, easy to munch on, can be ordered in all different colors, with sugar crystal, sprinkle or other toppings, they look great displayed on a dessert buffet (as shown)

Cookies: most versatile because they can be cut and frosted in almost any shapes, and decorative details can be personalized with names, colors, or themes

When it comes to weddings, it’s the big things that matter to the bride and groom (the location, the vows, being surrounded by their family and friends), but the little things matter to guests (attention to detail, your consideration of their comfort and entertainment). We hope these sweet little suggestions will add an extra special touch to your wedding day!

How To Choose The Right Size Wedding Venue

Worried about choosing a wedding venue that is too big or too small for your event? Today, I’ll walk you through a few important things to consider when choosing the right size venue for your ceremony and reception.

  • The first thing you need to consider is what type of wedding do you envision? Are you planning an intimate cozy wedding for just a few of your closest friends and family members? Or are planning a big blow out affair for hundreds of people?
  • You have to keep your guest count in mind. Different venues hold different amounts of guests. You don’t want to be someplace that’s too big for you or too small.
  • You also want to consider the fact that you need to fit more than just your guests seating and their tables in the room. You have a dance floor, you may have a stage for a band, you may be having a DJ which takes up a little less space.
  • Also, what type of meal service are you going to have? If it’s a sit down dinner that takes up less room than if you’re having a buffet or stations.
  • When you visit your venue of choice, ask them if they can provide you a room diagram with the number of people that you plan on having at your wedding. That way you can see how everything lays out in the room before you sign a contract. So take these simple tips and do some advanced planning, and you’ll find the perfect size venue for your reception!

Unique Unity Ceremony Idea: Honey Ceremony

I am often asked by couples who are planning their wedding ceremony, “What can I do for a unity ceremony besides a unity candle?” For outdoor weddings, it is often difficult to keep candles lit with even the slightest breeze, so many times I have suggested a sand ceremony as a flame-free alternative. As sand ceremonies have become extremely popular over the past few years, I am now asked by a lot of brides for more creative and personalized options to the sand ceremony.

At the El Conquistador Resort, a Waldorf Astoria resort in San Juan, Puerto Rico, one of their wedding officiants performs a unique unity ceremony that I want to share with you! It’s called a Honey Ceremony and it will not only wow your guests on your wedding day, but will become an anniversary tradition for a lifetime!

The resort provides a small bottle of locally produced Puerto Rican honey (a nice touch to incorporate your destination wedding location) during the ceremony for the bride and groom to each dip a finger into, and are invited to taste the sweetness of the honey. This symbolizes how sweet you vow to be to each other every day of your marriage. You can customize vows for this, perhaps adding a bit of your own personality and sense of humor, pledging kindness, consideration, and caring that is as sweet as honey.

On your anniversary, you can each taste the honey again and renew your promise to your partner as a remembrance of your wedding vows. The El Conquistador Resort’s wedding planners even suggest providing a small bottle of honey to your guests as favors, to remember your wedding and their own wedding day promises!

A few Honey Ceremony planning tips:

  • If you don’t want sticky fingers, arrange to haves small spoons for the honey.
  • Also, don’t forget to make your honey favors smaller than the required size for airline carry-on baggage (you don’t want guests forced to leave the honey behind or have it confiscated at security).
  • Don’t forget to go over your plans with your wedding officiant to incorporate this unique unity ceremony!
  • Customize your honey to the area where you’re getting married—it will literally add some local flavor to your wedding.
  • My thanks to the ‘Bride Whisperers‘ of the El Conquistador Resort in San Juan, PR for sharing this unique unity ceremony idea!
