Honeymoon Ideas: Fun Without Flying

A romantic honeymoon is on pretty much every couple’s wish list when it comes to wedding planning. Jetting off to a faraway place, just the two of you, for some much needed rest and relaxation after the big day sounds ideal. But what if you don’t ‘jet’? For many reasons, such as time constraints, budget reasons, or fear of flying, perhaps hopping on a plane for your honeymoon is not an appealing option. Today, Susan shares her tips for a romantic honeymoon getaway without flying.

Honeymoon Mondays: Georgetown, Grand Cayman

By Perfect Wedding Guide ‘National Wedding Expert’, Susan Southerland

For those who are handling the usual holiday hustle and bustle in addition to planning your wedding, I hope that each Monday you’re taking a ‘zen moment’ to consider our fabulous honeymoon hot spots! Speaking of which, no matter where you are today, it’s likely that there’s a chill in the air! I know I’d rather be soaking up the sun in the tropics, but I’ll just have to settle for sharing a gorgeous Caribbean oasis with you on today’s honeymoon blogGeorgetown, Grand Cayman.

Swaying coconut palms and white sand beaches meet the sparkling azure ocean waters in this island lovers’ paradise. Adventure seekers and romantics alike will find that Georgetown offers something for everyone to enjoy! You’ll find everything from simple condo rentals, just steps from the sand, to luxury accommodations in the large resorts on the island, upscale shopping, both local cuisine and international fine dining, and many interesting cultural and ecological activities. Bring your snorkeling or diving equipment if you’re an enthusiast, you won’t believe your eyes when you see all of the underwater delights that the Caymans’ wrecks and reefs have in store!

While you’re in Georgetown, plan a trip (for a few hours at most– this one doesn’t take long, but it’s pretty neat) to the sea turtle farm, where you can observe, pet, and even hold (baby) sea turtles at this turtle preserve and breeding sanctuary. I would also recommend a stop at one of the island’s rum cake factories where you can sample and purchase different flavors of this delicious treat.

Georgetown, Grand Cayman is not only one of the most beautiful locales in the Caribbean, but it’s also one of the most convenient for American travelers. With English as the official language of the Caymans, communication with the kind and friendly locals is a breeze. The islands also have a low crime rate and do not allow street vendors, so there is a comfortable and safe atmosphere to shop and dine leisurely in the city’s resort and retail areas.

Honeymoon Mondays: All-Inclusive Resorts

By Perfect Wedding Guide ‘National Wedding Expert’, Susan Southerland

Welcome back from your busy weekend, brides-to-be! Whether you’re working on wedding plans or wrapped up in holiday preparation, if you’re like me (who is doing both), you’re ready for some down time already! Well, I am keeping things as simple as possible this holiday season, without sacrificing what’s important (quality time spent with those that I love, making memories and sharing special experiences together). That inspired my honeymoon blog idea today—we are looking at a ready-made vacation option for you that will give you all the luxury you’re looking for without the travel planning headaches or hassles– All-Inclusive Resorts!

There are many advantages to booking your honeymoon at an all-inclusive resort. We are not profiling one specific resort destination today—after all, there are literally hundreds to choose from all over the world! Once you decide whether an all-inclusive option is appealing to you, I would suggest working with a travel agent to find a resort that will meet your needs without blowing your budget. Like a wedding planner, a good travel agent should be able to save you money as well as make your planning stages a breeze!

Although it varies with each all-inclusive resort, typically your accommodations, food, choice of activities, spa treatments, drinks, taxes, and tips are figured into the cost of the vacation package. You can set a budget up front and know exactly what you’ll be getting for your money, and then you’ll know how much to set aside for your honeymoon—no guessing!

Some all-inclusive resorts are ‘couples only’, so you can be sure that your relaxing afternoon at the beach, romantic dinner for two, or sunset splash in the pool are not disrupted by noisy kids, rowdy teenagers, or party-going Spring Breakers. The ‘couples only’ policy also presents an opportunity to meet other couples and make new friends as you explore similar interests and activities at the resort (dance classes, snorkeling, specialty fine dining, etc)!

Are any of our blog readers out there planning to honeymoon at an all-inclusive resort? If so, we’d love to hear about your plans in the comments section below!
