Bridal Market: Badgley Mischka Spring 2013 {Recap}

The designing duo who make up Badgley Mischka used the sophisticated style of the Duchess of Windson, Wallis Simpson (check out W.E., the biopic on her directed and written by Madonna). The elegant gowns illustrate the designers’ love of old Hollywood glamour, with lean silhouettes and Art Deco-like beading. There are a variety of necklines, something we’re seeing more of this season to please brides, including straps, caps sleeves, and a cowl-neck. Here at the wedding blog, our favorites were a V-neck taffeta ball gown with deep V-back and tulle cap sleeves; and a strapless, lace fit-and-flare with a tiered skirt.

Bridal Market: Jenny Packham Spring 2013 {Recap}

British designer Jenny Packham is known for turning her red carpet dresses into gowns for the aisle, but her new collection was designed strictly with the bride in mind. Inspired by the leading ladies of the golden age of cinema like Vivien Leigh and Bette Davis, Packham wanted to project the idea of a 1930s English country wedding with these dresses. The dreamy gowns are made from flowing silk chiffon, draped satin, and delicate French lace; and feature lots of softness, enchanting embroidery, and illusion construction. We love that the silhouettes are a bit more structured than what we here at the Wedding Blog have seen from Packham in the past to fit more real-girl figures. Her vintage-inspired bridal accessories line offers trendy beaded headbands and statement bracelets.

Bridal Market: Monique Lhuillier Bridesmaids Spring 2013 {Recap}

The dresses in Monique Lhuillier’s latest bridesmaid collection can make a bride’s attendant feel as beautiful as the bride herself. Always a true couturier, Lhuillier didn’t skimp on detail (such as a perfect sash bow strategically placed at the hip) or tailoring (like corseted bodices) for these dresses. She incorporated lots of flattering necklines and different lengths to suit every body type, then she made the dresses extra special with luxe tulle, chiffon, and taffeta. Touches like pockets, ruching, and V-necks make them totally wearable. Another trend to watch: the flower bridesmaid dress is making a comeback, but updated in soft colors and contemporary shapes like a strapless neckline with a knee-length circle skirt.
