British church pays homage to wedding fashion

With just one day to go until the royal wedding, nuptial glamor is on everyone's mind. In fact, one British church is so stricken with royal wedding fever that it has decided to host an exhibit dedicated to regal nuptial fashion throughout the ages. Britain's royals have been setting wedding trends ever since Queen Victoria walked down the aisle in white (the genesis of our modern obsession with pure-as-snow wedding gowns), and Kate Middleton's dress is likely to be almost as influential.
St Mary's Church in Halton, a British village, will display more than 35 wedding dresses, from the 1930s to the present, for the three days following Will and Kate's ceremony, BBC News reports. But these aren't the dresses of queens and princesses - these are dresses worn by ordinary women who got to feel like royalty for just one day,rc when they said "I do" to their own Prince Charmings.
"We have had a phenomenal response," said parish secretary Naomi Hadden, who organized the showcase, "from people loaning us their wedding dresses to people baking cakes for the exhibition. People have shared their wedding photographs and their parents' wedding photographs so you can see how the church has changed over the years."
"It is important to display the history of the church and the history of local people," she added. "It's a great reason for people to come together, share nice things and meet up with other people."
