Q •What should we do if we waited until the last minute?

It is never too late to start learning. If you find that you have forgotten about learning to dance until the last minute…it is possible, in just a few lessons, to learn the basics, a turn, and a dip.

Q •How should we select a song?

The song you choose is just as important as your first dance. Your song will set the mood of your reception; it also represents your relationship and leaves a lasting impression with your friends and family. If you already have a special song, please bring it to your consultation on a CD or IPOD. The best thing to do is to select several songs that you both like, and narrow it down from there as you begin to feel more comfortable with the dancing.

Q •What should I wear to my lessons?

You should dress comfortably for your lessons. Our instructors are always dressed in business professional attire. Our students come as they are, some in suits straight from work or on their lunch break, others in jeans. We only recommend that you don’t wear anything too restrictive of movement or that you are uncomfortable in.

Q •Do I need special shoes?

That depends. If you have shoes for your wedding, you can wear something similar so you will feel comfortable on the big day. If you haven’t bought your wedding shoes yet, you may want to consider buying dance shoes to wear for your wedding. They are typically very comfortable and come in a wide variety of styles. Dance shoes will make your learning experience easier because they give your feet the flexibility and freedom to move. We can recommend some stores and styles for you.

Q •How long will it take me to learn?

How many lessons you will need depends on your learning style, the amount of practice you do, and how good you want to become. Our focus on private lessons allows you to learn at your own pace, according to your schedule. It doesn’t take long to learn the basics. After that, spend a little more time polishing your technique or learning a choreographed routine. You can make your special dance as simple or as elaborate as you like. It’s up to you!

There is NO WAY I AM PAYING $135 a Dance Lesson!

1/ 5

I walked into the Arthur Murray Studio in Plano and was greeted by an over-excited character named James. I actually felt like I was walking into a used car lot when I was only there to learn to dance. It was aweful! After my introductory lesson, I was then "turned over" to the "closer" who started to show me the prices…$135 a lesson….Thats right, I said $135 a lesson! My wife and I packed our stuff up and ran away as fast as we could!!! The next day my wife shopped around and found out that almost every studio in the area had a better rate of $85.00 — $95 a lesson. In addition, almost every studio had some not so nice things to say about Arthur Murray Plano and Dallas Studios. Reputation is everything…If it smells like crap…then it probably is crap! Question to Arthur Murray Plano. How do you price your lessons so high when everyone around you thinks you are aweful pushy people ….Looks to me that your preying on the weak, ignorant and vulnerable. Thank God we shopped around and saved $50. Shop around people ..Shop around.. Shit, all we wanted to is learn the 2 step but not pay an arm and a leg for it!!
