Wedding at the Highlands Inn

This venue is breathtaking. We recently had our wedding at the Highlands Inn and it was truly incredible. We had our ceremony out on the Gazebo deck overlooking the ocean. It felt very private, like we were nestled in the trees. We worked very closely with their catering manager named Katherine Gammer and she went above and beyond to make our day seamless and the best ever! Katherine and her staff worked tirelessly to make sure everything went smoothly. We had about 100 guests and they fit perfectly on the deck and then we also had cocktail hour right there on the deck after the ceremomy. There is room for a bar on the landing area and we had passed appetizers which were incredible. We also had our reception in the Surf Room and the views of the ocean were stunning. Our guests got to enjoy a beautiful sunset while sipping cocktails outside on the terrace. The chef is extremely talented. The food was outstanding. So delicious! Katherine Gammer and her staff were amazing! If you want an unforgettable day with an incredible staff to help you plan the perfect day, I highly recommend considering having your wedding at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands Inn!

Impeccable service, magical location, couldn't ask for more!

“Okay the bar has been raised!”. This is what one of my best girlfriends expressed once she witnessed the epic ceremony and reception that we had at the Highlands Inn. You’ll never beat the location for the ceremony – scenic deck overlooking the ocean as the fog rolls in miles away. During my ceremony, I was giddy inside looking at this backdrop thinking “how could anything be more magical”. Okay, so lets get down to brass tacks. Besides the one-of-a-kind view for the ceremony, I have to give kudos to the staff, who perfectly executed the plan for the most important day of my life so far. Kendall, who literally gave me the hair clip she was wearing at the last moments before walking down the aisle in case I needed to secure my cathedral-length veil, to McKenna, who jumped in with about 2 weeks notice when her predecessor left and yet executed the ceremony and reception with military precision – it doesn’t get better than this. Had a guitarist and harpist fit easily into the side of the deck for the ceremony, still with room for the DJ to operate. We went with a DJ instead of band because of costs mainly, but it would be hard to fit a whole band in the reception area. DJ worked perfectly for me. The service was impeccable. ImPECCABLE. And the food? Who expects the food to really be that delicious at a wedding? Not me, but the bacon-wrapped filet was divine. My husband commented to me on it as well. seriously – overachievers! Highlands Inn will assign you a person on staff in their wedding department who will help in the months leading up to the wedding, and the person initially assigned to me went above and beyond to answer my questions in a quick timeframe. And McKenna, who stepped up with just over a week to go, was gracious and enthusiastic, and really got the job done. Orchestrated everything to a tee. Worth every penny.

World Class Views and Service

Absolutely stunning views, and the service was off the charts. Everyone at Hyatt Carmel Highlands was all about accomodating us and our guest as if we were royalty. At the reception, the server would periodically check in with us at appropriate times (not excessive and would be soft, professional, and quick about it) to make sure we were doing alright…was there anything we needed. One of our guest shared with us that they had asked for the vegetarian entree (off menu) and to their pleasant surprise, even her salad came out without the bacon pieces that the others at her table had. This is just one example of how dialed in the service was that whole day/evening. We stayed an extra day at the hotel. They kept the top of our cake in their kitchen, bringing a piece out to us the next evening served in their lounge, again storing the rest for further instructions. The one thing to be aware of, though, is that we cycled through 3 different people due to “turnover” over the almost one year of planning for this event. This was not an issue for us as we had an outside wedding planner who was our point person for keeping things on track. However, if you are relying on the person assigned to you at Hyatt, be sure to keep good notes since the person you start with may not be the person who is serving you at the wedding. I should mention that each of the three, though, were all exceptionally nice to work with and eager to serve and accomodate us. Katherine Gammer was the one who was there at the end. Our planner shared that she felt Katherine was very knowledgable and great to work with as well. Oh, and to top it off, their accounting discovered that we had made one too many payments (thousands of dollars over) and called us to arrange to put back on our card – honorable, trustworthy. Note, we looked at a lot of places before settling on this location and have to say without a doubt this was the absolute best choice for what we wanted for our wedding weekend.

Everything here is top notch!

We couldn’t imagine choosing any other location to get married. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The hotel was featured as one of the Top 10 places to vacation in the world. The service and amenities are excellent. Unlike other wedding venues, our wedding coordinator, Lindsey, treated us like a King and Queen and this treatment continued through the remainder of our planning and the day of our wedding! Our guests were impressed by the location and the service. The planning was an enjoyable experience of picking out our vendors and finalizing details with our coordinator. We would recommend this venue for any couple looking to get married including an ocean view and a back up plan for inclement weather. (although the weather is beautiful every time we’ve been there)

Fantastic and fit into our small budget!

Had our wedding here in June. Everything was fantastic. For people getting married in the Monterey/Carmel area who think it’s too expensive, consider the following: — your guests won’t need to find/pay for parking, the valet service will be free for you & your guests — the food IS wonderful. Your guests get to choose their entree on the spot instead of when they fill out your RSVP card — printed menus come free — if you’re not serving alcohol, they won’t overcharge you for sparkling cider (some hotels we looked at would’ve charged us upwards of $20/bottle. Of Martinelli’s!) — you get a free night (not just a discounted rate) to stay in one of the townhouse suites — cake & cake-cutting costs are included — you can’t beat the view. You don’t just see open water. There’s beautiful cliffs, rocky shores, breaking waves, and maybe even a passing whale or two (No, really! A few friends spotted a few of them) — you won’t have to worry about pooping birds. Yes, there are birds in Carmel, but for some reason they don’t fly over the gazebo area (we’ve visited the site at least half a dozen times before the wedding) Lindsey, and Michele (who took over when Lindsey got promoted & moved,) were the best. We never felt looked-down upon or treated like second-class citizens because our budget was so small. They and the entire staff were outstanding. Yes, you do need to use their recommended vendors, but if you choose 1 or 2 off the list, they don’t mind. However, these vendors are the best in the area & they all have outstanding reputations. Most, if not all, are on the recommended vendor lists for several establishments in the area. Michele (and Tony from Layers Cakes), thanks for the scrum-diddly-umptious surprise apple pie and strawberries waiting for us when we got back from partying!
