When planning our wedding, my fiancé and I imagined our reception to be a unique and fun experience for our guests that was affordable to our frugal budget and provided services that would keep our special day enjoyable and stress-free. After looking at what seemed like every venue the KC area had to offer, my dad suggested we check out the Museum at Prairiefire. When I called to set up an appointment, the staff there was eager and willing to meet with us and easily worked around my planning “team's” (aka my family’s) schedule. I was awe struck just pulling up to the building to see the brightly colored stained glass windows that encompassed the whole building and reflected the sunlight so boldly. When I walked inside, I was even more impressed by the clean and modern-yet-historic feel of the building. While the setting was gorgeous, I had a hard time picturing it as a reception site. The staff was so prepared and personable that they easily shed light on the endless possibilities the space had that lent itself so perfectly for a wedding reception. Not only was the layout perfect and the price more than reasonable, but the venue itself was so stunning that we knew we would also be saving money on flowers and decorations! Who could compete with a giant T-Rex skeleton, stained glass, colorful uplighting, and bright backdrops?!? We had a BLAST completing DIY projects for the small amount of decorations we did include to play off of the museum’s prehistoric theme that made our wedding truly unique. Our guests and even we were SO impressed with how flawless everything looked when we walked in. I had no idea the site could be even more beautiful than it was without all of the tables and decorations, but it was truly magical. Honestly, everyone kept describing our night as a fairy tale and it truly was. In keeping with their description, the comparison I would make to the staff would that they were like our fairy godmothers! No detail was left out or out of place as they effectively and efficiently facilitated our multiple vendors, and they catered to our every need. I would highly recommend the Museum at Prairiefire for your wedding reception or next big event. They combination of the staff and the venue itself will have you and your guests raving about it for weeks afterwards.
Museum at Prairiefire
Dream Wedding Under the T. rex

My husband and I are the lucky couple who can claim we were the first to get married at the Museum at Prairiefire. It really was a dream come true for us. We're not religious and it was difficult to figure out where to have a ceremony that would be meaningful for who we are as a couple. The minute we found out the museum was being built, we knew we had to make it happen. Jennie VanSickle was helpful every step of the way. We had a tour before the place was even finished (hard hats and all!). She really went out of her way to make magic happen for us. We had a few meetings about how best to set up the space and what our needs would be. They even had a picture of us up on the big screen in the lobby as folks walked in!
My husband and his best man arrived first, and when they had trouble with the electronics in the room they were waiting in, Jennie moved them into an even better room. (In an attempt to calm his nerves, my husband had brought his PS3 so he and his best man would have something to do while they waited on me to take pictures.)
I thought parking would be an issue, but there was valet parking so it turned out just fine. One bridesmaid did have trouble getting her car back at the end of the ceremony, but she had used a different valet company and I'm pretty sure that bug has been worked out by now.
The ceremony was beautiful, and the pictures are simply stunning. I couldn't have dreamed of a better place to get married.
The only drawback for us was the inability to have a rehearsal at the museum the night before, owing to a company Christmas party that had already been booked. They did offer to let us do it on Thursday evening, but half the people involved were coming from out of town and couldn't make it on Thursday. Luckily, we were able to use our reception venue instead.
All in all, I couldn't be more happy with the way everything turned out. It was a beautiful wedding and the museum staff were wonderful. I would highly recommend the Museum at Prairiefire as a wedding venue.

Fabulous place for an Engagement Party !

We had our daughter's engagement party in the Great Hall of the Museum at Prairiefire. We couldn't have been more pleased! Everything went beautifully beyond our already high expectations. The staff was outstanding, responsive, accommodating and very helpful. The Hall looked spectacular and our guests were very impressed with the exhibit. We had Kansas City BBQ, Boulevard Beer and a Blues trio (Joe Cartwright) It was an unforgettable evening!
