How long does it take to order a mother's dress?
We have 2,500 dresses in stock & none of them are samples. Our goal is for every mother to walk in the store, try the dress on in her size & color and walk out the store with it, without the stress of ordering & wondering what it will look like. That's where we really shine! That being said, mothers often underestimate how long it take to order a dress. Special occasion dresses are very different from bridal & bridesmaids. Only 30% of them can every be re-ordered as many are one-time-only cuts. There are 2 groups of designers that will take special orders. Of those 2 groups, a special order can take anywhere from next day shipping, to a few weeks to 6 months. The good news is that we have very specific shipping dates so we can tell you with precision when you can expect your dress to arrive. There is no room for guessing when you're talking about Mother of the Bride dresses!
What is currently trending for Mother of the Bride?
Just as brides are wanting to show of their own personality & taste, so too are Mothers of the Bride & Mothers of the Groom. Mothers are looking for younger, fashionable dresses. Weddings today are in barns, on beaches, in hotels and various other destinations. This requires many different looks. The bottom line is Mothers want to look fabulous and should feel fantastic in the dress they choose.
What colors should mothers wear?
Stylists have a different perspective than interior designers, floral designers or wedding coordinators. The latter disciplines use swatches of color to create a theme or evoke emotions. The stylist directs the client to wear a color that will make her looks exceptional. The art to this is in selecting a color that will optimize her personal coloring & will not clash with the colors of the wedding. Mothers are remembered for how they look walking down the aisle & at the reception. The goal is always "She looked amazing at her daughter's/son's wedding"!
I'm trying to lose weight. How long can I wait to start looking for my Mother of the Bride dress?
EVERY mother is trying to lose weight - even the size 2s! There are 2 things to consider. 1) Don't put off shopping so long that you can't find a dress you like - or love!!! - & 2) Don't buy or order a dress that's way too small on you & use it as motivation to lose weight. In our 25 years of working with Mothers of the Bride & Mothers of the Groom we've literally never had a happy ending with this scenario. Weddings are stressful. Mothers shouldn't put themselves under more stress than necessary. If we're being honest, it's not as easy for a mother to lose weight as it is a bride. Most dresses can be altered down in size, where as almost none of them can be let out. If you are concerned about whether the dress can be made smaller ask alterations if it's possible & realistic. Find the dress you love & feel spectacular in & then alter it down when the wedding comes.
