Love is in the air for Bethany Hamilton

Most people remember Bethany Hamilton as the courageous 13-year-old surfing champion who lost her arm after being attacked by a shark while doing what she loved. However, these days, she's looking to celebrate not just her accomplishments over the years, but her recent engagement. Hamilton took to her blog to share the good news with her family and friends May 7.

The blog post appropriately titled, "In Love," describes what the now-23-year-old loves most about her fiance Adam Dirks.

"I know Adam and I are right for each other and that God has us together for Him," Hamilton writes on her blog. "Neither of us is perfect, but in my eyes Adam is just right and I'm thankful to have someone so perfectly perfect to share life with as one."

The adrenaline junkie added that the first thing she and Dirks did after getting engaged was jump off a cliff to celebrate.

The couple have been together since spring 2012 when Hamilton and Dirks were set up on an informal blind date. Dirks also shared his own perspective on their love and his excitement of wedding planning to come when he acted as a guest writer on his now-fiance's blog.

"I was stoked when I asked Bethany's parents' blessing to ask her hand in marriage," Dirks writes on his entry. "They were overjoyed and gave their permission! My parents and family were also in approval! Soon I had a wonderful caper planned to express my love; to ask Bethany's hand in marriage. When she said, "yes!" we entered into an even more beautiful continuation of our relationship."

According to People magazine, Hamilton gained fame thanks to her positive attitude and drive following her devastating accident in 2003. She became a pro surfer despite only having one arm in 2007 and wrote a book, "Soul Surfer," shortly thereafter.

No wedding plans have been released as of yet.
