Our Member Minute today is an amazing wedding photographer! European-born, Bjorn Meisner has an eye for beauty and a passion for capturing the human experience. Creating portraits with personality that connect with the heart and soul is what makes his photography unforgettable.
What makes your business different than others?
As a photographer you rely on your eye and experiences. Born and raised in Germany and having traveled extensively gives me a broad perspective and repertoire of visual experiences that I can source from, often subconsciously. I have won awards and watched the judging of other award winners and am analytic toward composition, light, expression, etc. Working in marketing and advertising has also taught me a few things about timing and working efficiently, people skills and how to visually translate intangible concepts like love, hope, spirituality, etc into compelling photography. I am also married and have a three-year old son named Parker. I believe nothing teaches you more about moments that matter with family and relationships than being a husband and father.
What inspires you?
My family, traveling, and my frequent participations in photographic educational opportunities. I am also constantly browsing magazines for portrait ideas and look for light, movement and expression in movies.
What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly. Laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that makes you smile. Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. -Mark Twain
What is your favorite vacation spot?
Anything coastal, especially, if it involves fresh seafood. It doesn’t even need to be warm there. I love the sea and whether scuba diving, swimming or just listening to the waves breaking on the beach, water is what makes me feel alive.
If you could visit any place in the world where would that be and why?
Scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef. The underwater world remains a mystery for most of us and hasn’t really be photographed extensively. It’s a world that also only a few generations will be able to enjoy and an experience that is more unique than, say a weekend in New York, which is to some degree repeatable (though, one of my favorite places also).
What is your favorite color?
Blue, the entire nautical color range, really.
What is your favorite movie?
I look for drama more than for action, comedy, etc. I just love a story well told and learning from the human transformations that are displayed in the plot. I am looking for human interaction and the creative execution, e.g. I love the de-saturated colors in the Godfather and the high contrast in movies like “Shutter Island” I often revisit classics by Fellini and Hitchcock. Just recently I rented the Night of the Inguana by Tenessee Williams – a masterpiece, especially the poem recited toward the end. “Age of Innocence” , ”Pride and Prejudice” and “Dangerous Liaisons” are great movies to observe human interactions and poses that inspired some of my wedding photography.
What is your favorite song?
I love U2 and couldn’t really pick one favorite song. I love the passion of Bono’s voice their live performances, the depth and wisdom of their lyrics, the settle references are intellectually intriguing and their melodies and intros have become the soundtrack of my life. I believe the band did help to change the world – a very high quest for any artist.
