A dog is an important part of the family, but is he an appropriate addition to the wedding day? My dogs certainly wouldn’t be. They would be barking, running around, jumping on and licking the guests. I don’t even want to get into a discussion about my dachshund’s piddling issues when she gets excited.
With that said, I have had clients with brilliantly trained canines (some of which behaved better than the humans) who made a fun and meaningful addition to the wedding party.
Temperament and training are large considerations when determining whether or not to include your dogs. Here are some other things to consider:
- Will your ceremony venue allow dogs?
- Do you have someone who can hold onto them during the ceremony and after they’ve had their photos taken?
- Will you be able to concentrate on the ceremony or will you be too concerned about your dog’s safety?
- Make sure to plan an exit strategy for the dogs. Chances are, they won’t be allowed to go where food is being served.
Are you thinking about including your dog in your wedding? What are your tipster concerns? And when you can, send me your wedding day dog photos. I’ll post them here. I’m a sucker for a pup in formalwear!
