Whether it was the designer dress that Kate Middleton wore, the fresh flower wall that Kim Kardashian West stood in front of, or the five-tiered wedding cake Sofia Vergara cut into, more than likely you’ve wished you could include one celebrity wedding item to your wedding planning list. Sadly all of these items cost a pretty penny, something that may not be negotiable in the average wedding budget.
Even if you do not have access to $136,000 (estimated) for wedding florals or designer Sarah Burton on speed dial, it is still possible to create a celebrity inspired wedding on a budget. And a low budget at that. How? Let me break it down for you!
Many celebrities import very expensive flowers to their wedding destination such as Lady Slipper Orchids. For your wedding, considered replacing these with similar stems like Cybidium Orchids, these are available throughout the year which make them a lot less expensive.
In many celebrity weddings you also see an abundance of flowers – huge centerpieces, draped from chair backs and cascading from the ceiling. This amount of flowers does a number on your budget. Instead skip the high centerpieces, lower ones traditionally cost less and provide a more romantic and intimate vibe.
One of the biggest trends we see with celebrity weddings is the bride changing into multiple dresses. Real Housewives of Atlanta veteran, Kim Zolciak-Biermann had two wedding dresses and a jumpsuit she changed into throughout the duration of her wedding. Though a great idea, for those of us lacking a huge fortune it can be hard. Instead of splurging on two or three dresses, simply purchase the one dream dress you’ve had your eyes on. If you feel you must change into something else, pick up a darling white dress after prom season to get a great deal on something that still wows!
Similar to wedding flowers, celebrities will go over-the-top with their wedding decor. Take Kandi Burruss for example. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star had pipe and drape across every inch of her venue, spotlights and uplighting galore and a custom chandelier that hung over the stage where she and Todd exchanged wedding vows. Those are just a few of the decor items from just the ceremony space. Incredible and insanely expensive.
For the average couple, I recommend working together on decor piece by completing a few DIY projects. This not only will provide you with a lot of custom items, but it will also give you and your soon-to-be husband/wife some quality bonding time. Which is a double win!
In an interview with Brides, David Tutera said photography was one of the most important things to spend your budget on. “You might not remember what songs the DJ played or how the catering and cake tasted when you celebrate your 20th wedding anniversary. But looking back on your photographs will remind you and your husband of all of your wonderful memories and the joy that was your wedding day! You want to make sure to hire someone who’s work you love, and who you will feel comfortable and at ease with all day,” Tutera said.
