Hey friends! This week we are traveling to Lake Elmo Inn Event Center and just in time for their 10th birthday. Yay! Happy birthday! This venue has a great perk, it started as just one location, the restaurant. That means the food is top notch. Buying a second location allowed them to do large party events with a separate staff. That means devoted staff members who really only do weddings and events. When the Minnesota venue opened they moved about 12 staff members over and in about 2 years they had expanded to 75. That’s people who are committed to events at the venue, to brides and grooms, and their guests.
But those are just the logistics of the space, Chris, the catering director, is going to walk us through what to expect when using Lake Elmo Inn Event Center as a Twin Cities wedding venue. And it really has nothing to do with square footage or moveable dance floors.
So you’ve got the restaurant and the event center, what about catering, can Lake Elmo Inn travel outside of Lake Elmo?
Off site catering is actually a large part of our business. We have really been expanding to downtown St. Paul, at venues that don’t have their own catering. The University of Minnesota is actually our biggest customer – we feed Gopher football, basketball and hockey teams, and a lot of their non-athletic departments.

The Lake Elmo Inn Event Center can fit 150-200 guests seated, at least that’s what is most comfortable. A party that size allows for quick service, happy servers and wonderful guest experiences. Rental is really inclusive, I thought it vital to include linens, and we also provide full service china onsite and off. There’s built in AV equipment, lounge furniture, and a bridal suite with a combination lock to keep personal items in. Looking for a outdoor ceremony site in the Twin Cities? We’ve got that too.
Need something that the venue does not provide? Like florals or a DJ? Lake Elmo Inn Event Center suggests vendors on their website. Chris is serious about who makes that list, the businesses that are on there really are preferred. That means that Chris has personal relationships with all of those vendors, she knows them and feels comfortable relying on them. Hiring vendors like Henry’s Floral, who does the gardening for both sites, the restaurant and the event center, means hiring a florist who knows the venue and knows how to make it shine.
This Minnesota venue is unique in that there are 3 full time event planners on staff, that are allowed to really take their time in meeting with the couple and planning out the logistics of their day. 10 plus hours helping to plan the timing of the day, a custom room layout, menu planning, and the coordination of vendor arrivals. Then on the day of your wedding you’ll haven an event supervisor by your side guiding you through the I do’s and cake cutting, ensuring you dance your feet sore and laugh yourself silly.
I really want to be a leader in the industry as it comes to customer service, our venue might not be the best fit for you, and that’s great because I want you to have a good wedding.
Tell me more about how the catering works, what are clients really getting?
Along with honesty and transparency, we offer complimentary tasting of their SPECIFIC meal. This is really important, because you don’t always get to taste the food that is actually going to be served at your wedding. And everyone at the tasting gets a full meal, including wine, not just a few bites of this and a nibble of that.
Chris is really a generous person in the way she runs the event center. The event center will let you drop off centerpieces, table decor, programs etc., 2-3 days in advance, and they will set it all up and it isn’t an extra charge! Do you know how long it takes to set tables? To put out personal decor items? Long enough that it is worth having someone else do it for you!
