We LOVE when couples submit their engagement stories to Perfect Wedding Guide and getting to learn more about the fun, unique and interesting proposals of these newly engaged couples.
Recently Abigail Stewart of Brentwood Tennessee in our Nashville Perfect Wedding Guide market shared her story and how her fiancé Michael proposed.
On December 10th, 2015, my fiancé Michael and I went on our first date in Richmond, VA. We shared mutual friends and an Alma Mater, Liberty University, and while we had dinner, we realized that we shared much more. I instantly felt connected to his permanent smile while we talked and the way his eyes sparkled behind his adorable glasses.
I shared my passion for helping the seniors I worked with, and he shared his towards the individuals who’s mistakes landed them in the prison where he worked as an officer. Michael and I shared two dates in Richmond before I spoke of my intentions to move to Nashville, TN. Michael could have easily walked away, but I think we both knew, even then, there was something big here.
For the next year, Michael drove 10+ hours from Harrisonburg, VA to Nashville once a month to spend time with me for a weekend and turn around and drive home. We explored this city I was learning to love and created memories finding our new favorite restaurants, dancing at every music spot downtown, attending street fairs and festivals, fishing at the lake, and talking about our future.
In November 2016, I was blessed to get the news that Michael had a job offer in Nashville and was leaving his life behind in VA to pursue what God had for us here together. His sacrifice to leave a job that he loved and the town where his whole family lived just to be close to me, left me in awe of the love this man had for me.
Once Michael was in Nashville, we had lots of time and opportunities to spend together and make Nashville more of our home. My family quickly came to love Michael and enjoyed time with us as a couple every time they came to visit. Michael even spent time cleaning out my grandma’s house and helping her transition to move to the retirement home where I work as the Activity Director.
In May 2017, my parents came to town and Michael asked my dad to lunch where he asked his permission to make me his wife. (This was a secret to me.)
Seven months later, on December 23rd, Michael asked me to get dressed up and requested I wear my red dress, his favorite one, and meet me at the Senior community where I work. He said we would give my grandma her Christmas present and then go to a Christmas party for his work.
Yes, this was a made up party. When I arrived, the beautiful backyard of the senior home was lit up with candles and lights on the trees, and Michael asked me to be his wife! The moment was so beautiful and intimate, as it was just him, me, and my beautiful grandma who is my best friend. Having her be present for my most special moment is beyond description. The three of us ran inside the senior community where the residents were enjoying dinner in the dining room and announced that we had been engaged.
How special it was to have one hundred people who I love and spend my days with to celebrate with me! Especially because my family was so far away and not able to be there.
My fiancé incorporated everything that he knew was important to me and even in its simplistic form, was the most beautiful engagement I could have imagined.
We are so excited to spend our lives together!
Congratulations Abigail, what a beautiful story. We wish you and Michael much happiness and happy wedding planning!
