Engagement Story: It Started With A Dream

We love this engagement story from Almonique, a bride from our Perfect Wedding Guide  Baltimore – Washington D.C. market.

While meeting John might have seemed like a dream, the dream is real and the couple wed in May on the Maryland coast.

Here is Almonique’s story of how the couple met:

I truly believe that there is a reason for all of my dreams and I always tell one of my close cousins about each and every one of them.

In one particular dream, I remembered dating a guy whose name started with a “J.” Throughout the dream, “Mr. J” and I did everything together from, family outings down to visiting my late grandmother in the hospital. I remember “Mr. J” being the perfect gentleman that I had been praying to God for. The crazy thing is I didn’t know anyone whose name started with the letter “J.” My cousin advised me that perhaps, I hadn’t met him yet and maybe God is showing me a glimpse of what is yet to come so “hold on my sista.” LOL.

In May of 2014 my cousin invited me over for a Mayweather fight party. I was hesitant to go but something told me to go out and have fun… When I walked in the house, I instantly locked eyes with “Mr. J.” It was as if there was no one else in the room but he and I.

(suddenly, clouds formed around him as he slowly turned around with the biggest bright smile)

At that very moment, I knew I had to get to know him. I just didn’t know what to say without seeming “desperate” or pushy. After all, I had never approached a man expressing interest. I was always used to men approaching me if they were interested. I realized that I was going to need some help, so I urged my cousins to help play match maker and although they tried, “Mr. J” was just too tired to function after working long hours at work from 2 jobs.

After dosing off several times, “Mr. J” stated, that he was headed home for the night. I knew that my time had run out… All that I had discovered about him was that his name was John and that he was a pescatarian (one who adds fish and seafood to a vegetarian diet.) I never even got to ask if he was single, had kids… etc., but I didn’t give up there. I searched all social media outlets… John was just too much of a common name. After days of searching, I finally came across his profile. I messaged him and after waiting two days, I never got a reply… You think I stopped there? Nope… I sucked up my pride and reached out to his best friend via Facebook and got the digits. After finally getting his cell phone number, I didn’t even know what to say first… once again, I didn’t want to sound desperate or pushy but I knew he’d probably think I was a creep anyway for hunting him down. LOL. I went with my gut and texted the first thing that came to my mind…

“Hi, is this John?”, “Yes, who is this?” he replied. I knew that if I joked around a bit, it would possibly break the ice and make me feel a bit more at ease. “It’s the girl of your dreams” I responded. To my surprise, he kept the sarcasm going and said “Oh well if you are the girl of my dreams, you must be something special”. At that moment, I realized that he matched my “funny” and humor has always been the way to my heart.

After that conversation, we got to know each other very well, went on several dates, family events, started attending church services together and later completed pre-marital counseling. Later in our relationship, déjà vu started to happen a lot and I asked my cousin if she remembered the dream I had about the mysterious “Mr. J” and to my surprise, my cousin did remember the dream that I shared.

I truly believe that “Mr. J” was actually John and that he has to be the guy from my dreams because he is truly a blessing from God.

Congratulations Almonique and John, we wish you years of happiness!
