Save The Date

There is always a lot of chatter about Save the Dates.

Do we really need them, why have them and when do we send them?

One of my personal pet peeves around a wedding is calling a Save the Date and STD. Seriously no one wants to get an STD. Seriously, this is one time you don’t want to use texting acronyms.

Several decades ago Save The Dates barely existed. Couples were getting married in 8 months, or less so long term planning wasn’t necessary, and people were less transient.

Times Have Changed

Save the Dates are great for couples with long engagements. You want to make sure that family and friends have your wedding date on their calendar.

People just seem to be busier, and you don’t want them booking their annual vacation over your wedding date. More and more people are traveling in from out of state and around the world, and you want to make sure they have time to request time off, book travel and accommodations.

Save the Dates are the perfect way to get valuable information as well as fun things to do over your wedding weekend.

Once you have a wedding date, location and wedding room block you are set for sending out a Save the Date. Sending them out 9-12 months before your wedding is perfect.

If you are planning in less than 6 months, most experts suggest skipping Save the Dates and going straight to sending wedding invitations.

Be sure to have fun with your Save the Date. It is the first glimpse into your wedding and your personalities. So, get creative!

There are plenty of practical reasons for a Save the Date, but you want to make sure that the people you know and love have time to make plans. Whether you are doing a postcard, DIY, something fun and creative or an e-vite; sending a Save the Date has become an essential part of wedding planning.
